  • Greetings!

You are warmly invited to our first family concert of the season featuring the Renaissance dance band RENAISSONICS with guest mezzo-soprano Miranda Loud in a family concert of music from their acclaimed "Carols for Dancing" CD, interwoven with myths and stories of the fir tree read by local narrators. The concert will be held at Bemis Hall on Bedford Road in Lincoln (see directions below) on Sunday, December 10 at 4 PM. Admission is at the door only:$18 general/$15 students & seniors / children 10 & under FREE family maximum $55

I am also thrilled to announce our official IRS status as a 501c-3 organization. After a year of waiting and the tremendous efforts of our lawyer at Choate, Hall, and Stewart, the letter finally arrived. For all of you who have made donations since August 2005, they are all tax-deductible retroactively.

We planted over 750 trees through American Forests last season and we are partnering with them again to plant a tree for every audience member at each concert. This upcoming concert has been especially uplifting for me to assemble, as it involved traveling to Scotland to interview storyteller Margot Henderson whose fir tree stories will be featured. I also was able to interview a number of people in the UK about their relationships to trees. As Rialto Arts brings nature into the concert hall in various ways, it also aims to connect members of the audiences with one another. Please join us for a reception following the concert!

    Directions to Bemis Hall

Bemis Hall is located at 15 Bedford Road in Lincoln Center. The easiest way to get there is to take Rt. 128 to the Trapelo Road (Lincoln) exit (x28). Travel west on Trapelo Road across the reservoir and into Lincoln. Continue for about two miles until you reach the stop sign in the center of Lincoln (the town's red brick library building will be on your right). Turn right at the stop sign on to Bedford Road and continue 1/4 mile up the hill. Bemis Hall is the red brick building on the right, just past the Minuteman boulder. Limited parking is available in the church's parking lot across the street.

She co-founded Lookfar Connections, an environmental education cooperative, and Grasshopper Art and Nature Camp for children in 2000, in Vermont, which she ran for five years. She was a trainer for WYSE: World Youth Service and Enterprise and their representative to the United Nations during her four years in university at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. Lisa uses art as an educational tool, bringing people together in a creative and inspirational way. She has created educational murals and taught art to adults and children. She exhibits paintings and photographs in the US and the UK.

Why combine environmental awareness with an arts series?

The mission of Rialto Arts is a combination of two passions - love for the natural world and passion for the the arts as vital to personal and community health and happiness. As a professional musician, I have been acutely aware of the economic challenges facing the arts, especially in light of the larger global issues we are now facing. The arts not only uplift us, connect us to one another, and expand our creative thinking, but can reconnect with the wisdom of the natural world. Everything is connected. While studying ecovillage design in Scotland, I heard a description of "interbeing" by well- known buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh.

He says, "If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees cannot grow; and without trees, we cannot make paper. The cloud is essential for the paper to exist. If the cloud is not here, the sheet of paper cannot be here either. So we can say that the cloud and the paper inter-are."
