| On Wednesday, April 15, at 11:15 am in the Milas Hall Auditorium, the President and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation, Dr. Wanda Austin, will deliver a presidential lecture entitled "Getting it Right, in an Imperfect World." Dr. Austin, as Aviation Week puts it, is leading Aerospace Corporation - an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the objective application of science and technology toward the solution of critical issues affecting the nation's space program - through some tough transitions in the company and the U.S. national security space. She was chosen for this hefty leadership role because of her technical excellence, practical common sense and objectivity. Surely she has many great stories to share with Olin. Don't miss Dr. Austin's lecture on Wednesday!
The Olin Art Committee invites you to an opening reception for our spring exhibit of paintings by Mr. Mark Green. Please join us on Thursday, April 16 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Olin gallery space (the walkway to the auditorium). There will also be an" artist talk" about the work beginning at 6:15. Please direct any questions to Helen Donis-Keller. Below: "House (Frost) 2007."

The Mailroom Store needed a new more creative name and thanks to everyone who voted during the past week, we have a winning name. Surprisingly, (or not) it took some people a minute to relate “Frank’s” to Franklin W. Olin, but once they did we had a front runner.
Below are the five finalists that were voted on and the percentage of the total votes they received.
- Frank’s—46%
- Olin Mail and More –4%
- Pop’s—10%
- O-mart—33%
- MRS. (Mail Room Store)—7%
Everyone in the Olin community is encouraged to stop by the store to check out the wide selection of everyday items. If you don’t see something you need, we are open to suggestions. Remember, operating hours are M-F from noon until 3:30 pm. Thanks to everyone who participated in this process and we’ll see you all at Frank’s!
On Tuesday evening, April 7, four Olin students, Rachel Strubhar-Masick '11, Molly Crowther '09, Vivian Lee '09 and Nick Monje '12 joined two Olin chefs, Lam Tam and Bill Kelly, to win the Iron Chef competition for the second time. The event took place at Babson's Trim Dining Hall. The Olin team prepared a spicey filet mignon atop a grilled pineapple slice topped with a corn, red pepper, chive salsa; additionally the team prepared a spinach salad with a homemade vinaigrette which was topped with a crab cake. Congrats Olin chefs, you made us proud!

Go-Tech is a local service company founded by 10 Olin students that offers tech support (software and hardware issues, network installation, data backup, etc.) and computer tutorials (Photoshop, web development, MS Office, LaTeX, etc.) for reasonable rates (roughly half the price of its competitors).
Go-tech is non-profit (all of the proceeds go to charity at the end of the semester) and the group offers a ‘fix-it’ money back guarantee – where, in the off chance that they cannot fix your computer, they will refund your payment.
For more information visit www.gotech.org or call 339-987-4888.
If you’re doing service projects not associated with one of the service organizations on campus, SERV would love to get a brief description of what you’re doing. They want to include recognition of all the service Olin community members already do in their weekly SERV emails. Also, if your place of service could use more volunteers, SERV can get the word out to other Olin community members for even more opportunities to SERV! If you're comfortable being recognized, please email SERV with information about your service activities, and whether you are looking for more volunteers. Thank you! We appreciate all you do!

We appreciate the feedback from a few parents suggesting we change the earliest upper class move-in to an earlier time on Tuesday, September 1, next fall (classes begin on Thursday, September 3). However, due to on going difficulties with upper class students disrupting final preparation (e.g., cleaning, painting) of the residence halls and interfering with Orientation activities, we cannot allow upper class students to move in before 5:00 pm on Tuesday. In our earlier days, move-in began at 9:00 am the day before classes; we moved it back to give our west coast students (including Hawaii) more time to travel to campus. We recommend either arriving the day before classes (Wednesday, September 2), or students arrive without their parents and parents visit over the following weekend with the remaining belongings. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us make the Orientation experience a positive one for our new students. A more complete explanation is available on page 67 of the Parent Handbook 2008-09. Questions may be addressed to Dean Rod Crafts.

In the last issue we asked "Who was pitching a soft ball game in 4th grade and ALMOST got the mitt up in time to stop a line drive, but ended up with a broken nose and a nice set of raccoon eyes instead?" Jobim Santos was the first to respond correctly, Angela Sharer. Many thanks to Patty Kribbs for the submission!
