To welcome incoming freshmen and their families, the Parent Advisory Board (PAB) is seeking volunteers to host Send-Off Parties in their home states. In its fourth year, this Olin summer tradition is an informal way for new students and their families to meet current students, alumni and their families. Parties are strictly voluntary and can be hosted in a public park or private club or at someone's house. If you are interested in hosting a party, the PAB Events Committee has simple guidelines and can help you through the planning processes. Parties can be hosted by parents, current students, alumni or any combination of the three.
If you'd like more information, such as whether there are incoming students in your area (you never know, right?!), or are interested in hosting a party, please email Elizabeth Firstenberg, Chair of the PAB Events Committee. See you at a party!
IT is pleased to announce the launch of our new file transfer service, DropBox. DropBox is an easy way to send large files to users outside of the Olin community, or for those outside to send files to Olin users, using any standard web browser. To use DropBox, visit http://dropbox.olin.edu. Your feedback is welcomed and encouraged!
Olin College is now hosting a new One Card site (https://onecard.olin.edu). Moving this site to Olin servers will allow us to better serve our community and avoid service interruptions that were experienced this year. The improved interface now accepts network logins for Olin community members, and guests can place funds on any community member’s account using our guest deposit feature. For further information and instructions on our new One Card site, please check out the documentation posted on the IT websit. Additionally a link to the new One Card site can be found on the Campus Life page of the portal.
In conjunction with the name change of Milas Hall, IT has created a new wireless network.
As of Tuesday, June 17 the new wireless network “OLIN_MH” is available to community members working in Milas Hall.
IT will leave the old “OLIN_OC” network name active for the summer to facilitate the transition to the new wireless network. However, the old “OLIN_OC” network will be decommissioned before students return for the new school year.
Please make sure you migrate your wireless network configuration before then.
If you need assistance please feel free to call or email the helpdesk.
In March 2007 Olin College and Zip Car agreed to launch a pilot program providing shared car services to the Olin Community. At the end of the year-long pilot program a review of the rental history showed our usage never met the expectations or requirements needed to make the program viable. Therefore, Olin College and Zip Car have mutually agreed to end this program.
Please be advised that Zip Car has since added two cars on the Babson College campus that are located in the first row of the Trim parking lot. These cars are conveniently located nearby Olin and are available for use by Olin community members that are over 21 years old. To become a Zip Car member, sign up at www.zipcar.com. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Scott Slaboden, 781-292-2318.

We would like to thank all parents who took the time to respond to our Networking Database Survey earlier this Spring. We have had 172 parents offer their networking contacts and expertise for the benefit of our students and alumni! Your timely response and detailed information have already proven to be an invaluable tool for our students.
It is our hope that your information, along with other contacts from the Olin community, will become a powerful tool for all of our students in their quest for internships, research experiences, and post graduate opportunities.
What is the Networking Database? It is a tool where students can access the contacts of Olin faculty, parents, alumni, and board members to learn more about any career-related topic. If you have not yet filled out the survey but would like to do so, we would greatly appreciate your input. If you have questions regarding the survey or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Post Graduate Planning at 781-292-2280.
Thank you again for all of your help. Olin is truly a wonderful community because of the support of individuals like you.
Sincerely, Sally J Phelps
We have a new group of parents who will be sending their children to Olin this fall. They know something about Olin, but have yet to feel the warmth and community that we have come to appreciate. There are two ways you can help these new parents plug into our community:
1. Volunteer for the Parent Caller Program:
During July, help us welcome new parents by calling them to introduce yourself, tell them a little about what you’ve experienced as a member of the Olin community and answer their questions. We can all but guarantee it will be a rewarding experience for both you and the new parent.
You can call as many or as few parents as you’d like. Last year, 45 existing Olin parents divided up the list and called our 85 new parents. So much help made quick work of our list.
We’ll help by giving you the Caller Guide which has many calling tips and links to more information. We’ll also send you a list of what students should bring to Olin, entitled Packing 101.
2. Volunteer for the Parent Resource List:
Want to help but rather not make the phone calls? Consider volunteering to be added to the Parent Resource List. New parents are given the list and told to contact anyone on it if they have a question.
If you’re ready to jump on board, please send the following:
• Your Name
• E-mail address
• Your Olin student’s name and expected graduation year
• Your Phone number
• Whether you want to participate in the Caller Program, be placed on the Resource List, or both.
• If you’re volunteering for the Resource List, whether you want us to publicize your phone number.
Still have questions? Just contact Dan Kiser (614-506-6660), Chair of the PAB Communication Committee, by June 29. Thanks for considering these ways to help our new parents.
This summer, Matt Brouillard '07 will spend his time touring the eastern coastline and islands of Greece with the Caravan Stage theater. Check out the "past shows; tours 2005-2006" link for photos. The Caravan Stage Society Inc. has a most unique theatre venue -- a 30 meter tall ship, the Caravan Stage. After 27 years of showcasing contemporary professional theatre, the Caravan now performs its innovative theatrical productions on to the deck of the Amara Zee, the first Ship Theatre in North America, now sailing and touring in Europe. Matt will be keeping a photo journal on Facebook, and hopes to keep up Olin community members there. Additionally, you can view one of Matt's recent aerial silk performances on You Tube.
