| On February 13 beginning at 6:00 pm, Dr. Len Schlesinger, D.B.A., former Vice Chairman and COO, Limited Brands and President-elect, Babson College, will present the first of five Leadership and Ethics lectures in the Milas Hall Auditorium at Olin College. The Leadership and Ethics lecture series is sponsored by Olin, Babson and Wellesley College and is part of a course on professional ethics and leadership development that is being taught this spring at Olin. President Miller and Babson President Brian Barefoot are among the faculty for the course. Dr. Schlesinger's presentation is titled "Organizational Leadership in Search of the Triple Bottom Line: The “Victoria’s Dirty Secret” Campaign."
Over a multi-year period Victoria’s Secret (a mailer of over 400 million catalogs annually) was the target of a protest campaign by the ForestEthics campaign. The campaign was designed to address Victoria’s Secret’s use of paper drawn from logging in the Boreal Forests of Western Canada. The campaign included protest advertising, in store disruptions, protests at Victoria’s Secret events, fax clogs at headquarters, etc. Two months ago the Victoria’s Secret organization won an award from the ForestEthics campaign for its leadership in support of their environmental objectives. Dr. Schlesinger will discuss what drove this change of events and the role leadership plays in balancing profitability, the resource requirements of a business, and environmental issues. Please join us!

Thank you so much to everyone who has already participated in the Annual Fund. We are making great progress thanks to you. The Annual Fund runs through
June 30 and our goal is 100% participation of all Olin constituency groups. These generous gifts are critical for demonstrating the internal commitment to the College; they make a real difference in our ability to work with grant makers, corporations and foundations. Since the last update, the faculty and staff giving percent has increased significantly so we are getting closer to that 100% but we still need your help!
The parents of the classes of 2010 and 2011 have inched closer to that 100% participation rate so please join us in achieving that goal! If you have not yet participated in the Annual Fund, please consider doing so now. It is easy to help us achieve the 100% goal. Mail a check, payable to Olin College, to the Development office or make a credit card payment on line at https://www.olin.edu/about_olin/online_donation.asp.

Over the holiday season 45 alumni participated in a Holiday Card Exchange where 86 (snail-mail) cards were exchanged. These holiday greetings gave a chance for alumni to reconnect and pass around the holiday cheer. The "Most Dedicated Holiday Card Writer" award goes to Sarah Zwicker for exchanging 10 cards! We hope this will be an on-going Olin alumni tradition, so we look forward to even more cards exchanged next year. Thanks to those who participated!
The Office of Parent and Alumni Relations, the Alumni Reps, and Joanne Kossuth are looking for alumni volunteers interested in improving the Alumni Directory (https://www.olin.edu/alumnidirectory/) and the Alumni Website (https://www.olin.edu/Alumni). Ultimately, we are looking for four people from each graduated class to help out with everything from conceptual ideas to coding. Our goal is to create a set of tools the alumni will value and use. The initial time commitment is low. The current plan is for an initial face-to-face/teleconference meeting and then monthly follow-up sessions of approximately an hour.
If you have constructive opinions and ideas about these Alumni resources and would be willing to donate a small amount of your time to the cause, please email Jeff Glickman by Wednesday, February 13.
The Entrepreneurial Energy Expo (E3) is an annual event hosted by the Babson Energy and Environmental Club (BEEC) at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. E3 is designed to bring the energy industry to Babson to provide insight into emerging business trends, to connect students with potential future employers, and to develop Babson’s relationship with the rapidly expanding, and entrepreneurial, cleantech sector. While the event is designed to provide opportunities for all firms with operations in the energy and environmental industries (traditional or alternative), this year’s conference will focus primarily on cleantech. Hillel Council of New England, whose staff works with Hillel students at Olin and Babson Colleges, is seeking Jewish families from the college community to host students for the First and/or Second Seder during this year’s Passover observance, April 19 and 20.
Early planning has begun to provide a home based, familial seder experience for those students who will be unable to be with their own families during this important holiday period. Opening our homes to students during Passover strengthens and enhances the relationships between Jewish students, faculty and staff. If you are interested and able to host an Olin or Babson Hillel student, or two, for the First and/or Second seder, please contact Kathe Lewis for more information. She will need an email address and/or phone number in order to contact you. Thank you.

• On February 4, Sandy Poitras joined Olin as a Temporary – Post Graduate Planning Assistant. She will serve in this role until June 27. She is located in CC313 and her extension is 2287.
