RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs in the United States that provides the campus community with a fun, proactive activity in waste reduction. Over a 10-week period, campuses compete in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. The main goal of this event is to increase awareness of campus recycling and waste minimization. All participating schools are required to report measurements on a weekly basis in pounds. Olin is competing for the per capita prize. The Facilities department will measure the amount of trash vs. recycled materials coming out of the residence halls. Please be sure to do your part to reduce, reuse, recycle! The folks from the Babson Alumni Technology Council (BATC) have invited members from the Olin community to join their group and work with them to schedule joint events, increase participation at said events and engage in discussions regarding topics that are of interest to Babson and Olin students, alumni and faculty members. As a first step, the BATC is inviting anyone who might be interested to join the BATC listserv. The BATC listserv e-mail distribution system enables subscribers to communicate exclusively with other BATC members, receive e-mail communications about upcoming events, and communicate with subscribed Babson alumni on relevant technology issues. Please e-mail alumrel@babson.edu and request to be added to the BATC listserv. Additionally, the BATC is working on determining speakers for an upcoming Clean Energy Panel Discussion scheduled to take place on April 17. To date they have received a commitment from Mark Donahue. Mark is a venture capitalist with Expansion Capital Partners, LLC, a firm that is focused on investing in this space.
In an effort to solidify panelists and a moderator for this event, they are looking for suggestions from the Olin community. Ideal candidates would be involved in Clean Energy and could represent the following interests?
1. A speaker from Babson’s Olin School that could discuss the initiatives taking place at Babson in regard to Clean Energy
2. A Clean Energy Entrepreneur (1 or 2 entrepreneurs would be great)
3. A 2nd representative from another Venture Capital firm investing in Clean Energy
4. A professor/faculty member who could moderate the panel
If you have any suggestions, please email John Celli.
