Seniors Celebrate 2007 Hours Until Graduation
On Monday night, February 26th, the senior class took a break from their homework and trekked through the snow to Roger's Pub for their 2007 Hours Until Graduation celebration. "It was fun and a great way to get our whole class together to celebrate," emailed Alison Lee. The turnout was impressive with a total of 58 students in attendence. Excellent entertainment including a raffle, karaoke, DJ'd music and fun trivia, was provided by Tim Hanna, Aaron Peterson and Joe College. Alison Lee added a special touch as she delivered a heartwarming toast. These soon to be alumni were eager to put on their commemorative t-shirts, designed by classmates Cathy Murphie and Alison Lee with spoof on James Bond's 007 with our Phoenix behind the numbers. Matty Brouillard commented, "Thanks for the great pub night + T-shirts!"

There are ten remaining t-shirts available to purchase ($10/each). Priority will go to those seniors who were not able to attend. Please email Krissy Raposa if you are interested.

The Office of Parent and Alumni Relations (PAR) would like to thank the Alumni Relations Advisory Group (ARAG), office assistant and junior Beth Sterling, and others (especially those previously mentioned) who contributed to the event's great success.

Student Intern Position Available: Web Master for RMG
The Boston Consortium Risk Management Group (RMG) is currently developing the design for a stand alone website. Currently this group is a part of the Boston Consortium that uses the URL (www.boston-consortium.org); however, this distinct group needs help creating a collaborative and more-inclusive web resource in anticipation of future needs. The person who takes this position will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining this new RMG website under the supervision of the Director of Co-Sourced Risk Management. In addition, he or she will work with the Web Developer to protect the functionality and integrity of the existing Boston Consortium website. Click here for more information and/or contact Ed Frackiewicz with questions.

Campus Visits Committee Formed
As Olin increases in popularity, the College has been innundated with requests from external groups, corporations, universities, media, etc. to visit campus and either rent our facilities or meet with staff and faculty. A committee has been formed to handle such requests and we'd like to make the community aware of some new points of contacts for these different types of requests:

* Academically oriented visit requests should be directed to Mike Moody's office via Linda Miller

* All media requests should be directed to the Communication office

* Facilities rental/use requests should be directed to Emily Moscol

* Internal facilities use requests that have an external component should be directed to David Soo

* Visits initiated by members of the Olin community will be handled by the person initiating them, with support from Communication and the Visit Committee, as needed, to help schedule facilities, put together hand out materials, etc.

The committee will be meeting on an as-needed basis and includes Joseph Hunter, Alyson Goodrow, Emily Moscol, David Soo, Mike Moody, Joanne Kossuth and Nancy Sullivan.

2007 Daylight Savings Time Change
With daylight savings time starting three weeks earlier than normal, many time-based applications will be impacted, especially calendar and appointment based applications such as Exchange/Outlook calendars where appointments may be an hour off as a result. Appointment times between March 11, 2007 and April 1, 2007 and between October 28, 2007 and November 4, 2007 should be treated as suspect. Appointments in this extended spring period may display one hour later than originally scheduled. The reverse will be true in the fall period. IT is following vendor guidelines to patch and update Olin's various systems and applications. Please review the DST2007 page on the IT web site for additional information, updates and links to other application, operating system and vendor specific information.

FWOP Presents: The Importance of Being Earnest March 2nd-3rd at 8:00 p.m.
When Algernon Moncreiff and John Worthing assumed the name of Earnest for their escapades away from home, they thought that they were adding a bit of fun to their high-society lives without harming their reputations. Little did they know that they would fall in love under their assumed identities with women who loved them only for their name. Join the Franklin W. Olin Players (FWOP) at Babson's Sorenson Theater for The Importance of Being Earnest, a tongue-in-cheek classic written by Oscar Wilde and directed by Jon Cass ('08).

Seminar on Wearable Technology Design - March 7th
Lucy Dunne, a PhD candidate at University College Dublin in the School of Computer Science and Informatics, will host a seminar on wearable technology design on March 7th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in AC113. The seminar: "You Want me to Wear What?" will provide an introduction to the application areas and design considerations of wearable technology, with an emphasis on the use of a human-centered apparel design tradition to expand user-centered design to include a wider concept of "user" that encompasses the user's physical self and highly varied mobile environment. It will explore the intersection of fashion design, product design, hardware design, and human-computer interaction, and discuss the impact of aesthetic tradition, psycho-physical perception, and cognitive processing on the "wearability" of a device and its appeal to a user group.

Reminder: PAB Membership interest
Throughout the year and especially during Family Weekend, many Parents of the Class of 2010 (a.k.a. P'10s) expressed interest in serving on the Olin Parent Advisory Board (PAB). We appreciate the enthusiastic response! In November, we elected two representatives from the first year class. Please join us in welcoming Dan Kiser of Ohio and Connie Newell of Washington. At this time, we would like to extend the opportunity to all parents of the class of 2010 for the remaining two positions before making a final selection. Each PAB term of service will be for two years, beginning this spring and ending the spring of 2009. You can review the PAB Charter on the Parents' website. In short, the purpose of the PAB is to provide advice and counsel to the College on all issues related to the quality of the undergraduate experience at Olin, including recruitment and retention, student life and professional development, curriculum and learning, external and corporate relations and the strategies for philanthropic support for the College and its programs. Please email your interest and/or nominations to Krissy Raposa by Monday, March 5th. All of us are excited about working with you toward the common goal of making Olin College as excellent as it can be.
