Community Bulletin Board Beth Isreal Deconess Begins Community Connections Health Education Series The first lecture in the series will be held January 10th at 7:00 pm, and is titled "Life Balance and Stress." The lecture will be presented by Noreen Kavanaugh, LICSW, and June Atkind, LICSW, both social workers at Needham Psychotherapy Associates. The second lecture "Coping with Menopause" will take place on January 17th at 7:00 pm. The lecture will be presented by internist Jane Fogg, M.D., medical director of Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare-Needham. Both lectures are scheduled to run an hour and will be held in the Dickerson room at the hospital. Alumni Spotlight Adam Horton Following graduation Adam Horton joined the United States Antarctic Program. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) External U.S. Government Site, the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) supports scientific research in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. The USAP carries forward the nation's goal of supporting the Antarctic Treaty, fostering cooperative research with other nations, protecting the Antarctic environment, and conserving living resources. Over the past several months Adam has assumed many roles, building a new power plant, cleaning boilers, and digging holes (not an easy task working with frozen soil). Most recently he underwent a title change from general assistant to power plant technician responsible for making sure the six diesel generators are well behaved and the lights stay on. Kudos Congratulations to the Downey Family On Tuesday, December 26th Professor Downey and his wife welcomed their second daughter Celia June Downey. She was born at 2:20 pm and weighed in at 10 lbs 2 oz. Everyone involved is healthy and happy. Olin Applicant Pool Increases By 33 Percent The office of Admission is now evaluating applications for the class of 2011. Thanks to all our great adovcates, the data suggest that Olin's reputation is growing faster than many of us could have imagined. With 33 percent more applications being evaluated this year, the applicant pool has nearly doubled the last two years. New Faces @ Olin Faculty (Adjuncts) New Hires: On Tuesday, January 2nd Ellen Argyros joined Olin as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She will be located at OC361. Staff (Temporary) New Hires: On Wednesday, January 3rd Linda Miller returned to Olin as a Temporary Assistant to the Dean of Faculty. She will be located in OC260 and can be reached at extension 2509. On Tuesday, February 13th Phyllis Leibman joins Olin as a Temporary Registrar. Her schedule will be Tuesdays & Thursdays (8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.). She will be located in CC300d and can be reached at extension 2340. Articles of Interest Trivia
