Provost Kerns has defined the charge of the Academic Calendar Committee as follows:
- Develop a set of general guidelines for establishing the academic calendar. Distribute guidelines to the community for comment.
- Gather input from the entire community to develop an academic calendar that supports the scholarly and educational goals of the Olin community and still allows time for outside interests. As in the past, priorities will include compatibility with Babson and Wellesley calendars, as well as optimizing the Olin schedule.
- Meet and coordinate closely with the ARB to assure that direct input from faculty and students is considered; obtain input from all administrative leaders.
- Identify a method for receiving submissions to the academic calendar and define a timeline for approval and publication. Ensure the development of future calendars that will span at least three years in advance of the current academic year.

“Do Certifications Separate Wheat from Chaff,” By Sandra Gittlen, Datamation, March 18, 2005
EXCERPT: '”When these people are going to be put in charge of auditing or compliance for an organization, you need some measurement of their skills,” says Joanne Kossuth, CIO at Olin College, a small university in Needham, Mass.

In the last issue we asked how many members of Olin's President's Council have gone on to become (current) members of the Board of Trustees. Tricia Benson correctly answered four – William Cotter, Tamara Davis, William Glavin and Carla Gude – and she will receive Olin gear for her correct response.
Olin trivia buffs do you know....
Q: At what age did Franklin W. Olin receive his first “big break” in industry?
A: First person to correctly respond to Jennifer Thomas receives a prize.
