- Workspace for Senior Capstone Design Projects
The Senior Capstone Design projects (which may have a different name by the time this is read), require space for individual team work. For the fall semester of 2005, the west and north wings of the first floor of West Hall will be used as “assigned team rooms,” and assigned to specific projects. These rooms will be used for team meetings and planning; not for actual construction of hardware.
- Academic Calendar Committee Formed
In order to assure that we obtain input from the entire community in developing future academic calendars, Provost Kerns has established an Academic Calendar Committee. This group will meet with the ARB to obtain direct input from faculty and students, and will accept recommendations from the entire community, prior to making recommendations. This committee will consider modifications to the current calendar as needed, and address creating future calendars. As in the past, priorities will include compatibility with Babson and Wellesley calendars, as well as optimizing the Olin schedule. Current members are: Dean of the Faculty (Michael Moody), Dean of Student Life (Rod Crafts), Director of Academic Services (Terri Dunphy, Chair) and Director of Campus Services (Joe McDonald). The committee will make final recommendations to the Provost.
Questions regarding these two announcements should be directed to David Kerns.

Nick Tatar, assistant dean of Student Life has written a letter to Olin faculty, staff and parents regarding Alcohol, Culture and Olin. The letter notes that while there are a number of positive outcomes associated with the close knit and dynamic Olin College community, there are also a number of challenges that aren't often discussed. One of those pertains to alcohol and decisions made in regard to alcohol use and consumption. In an effort to reinforce Olin's healthy environment, the letter asserts there are two areas upon which we can be more active: alcohol education and communication within the community regarding social standards and alcohol. With regard to this effort, Olin will offer its first TIPS class (Training Intervention Procedures) to fifty students. Secondly, parents and professors are encouraged to “do something” and talk with students about this issue. The letter offers some tips for this discussion. Questions should be directed to Nick at ext. 2320.
The Olin College Purchasing Department is now processing Purchase Orders (POs) through the new Jenzabar financial system. Please do not send any requisitions to Babson, as they no longer process our POs. Sending a PO to Babson will only delay your order.

Payroll Manager Wendy Peterson has created an informational form that simplifies this tax information. Call Wendy (781-239-4554) if you need any additional information.
